The first question people ask us (and this is mainly from people who don’t ride) is why would a chain break in the first place. There are probably lots of answers to that one but the best way to answer this one is simply: Take a 100 kg plus rider coming down from a jump or drop off and you’ll have the best part of half a ton compressing the rear suspension, add to that a chain full of mud and adjusted quite tight in the first place and you’ve got a driveline under some serious pressure.

Whatever the reason is. A  broken chain is more of a regular occurrence than most people might think.

Before the first Terra-X, G clamp type chainbreaker was introduced back in 2001, there were really only workshop tools available, far too big and heavy to take with you on a ride.

We understand that not everyone wants to carry a chainbreaker, or tools at all in some cases however for the rider who has had trouble themselves or has seen someone else’s painful experience, carrying one of these just makes sense (even if you only use it to help somebody else).

Nobody wants to have a ride ruined by something that would take just minutes to fix with this versatile little tool.

THE TERRA-X ENDURO CHAIN BREAKER

Is a clever little device. It can push the pins out of the strongest chains in seconds without grinding the burrs off, and it does this anywhere you might find yourself. The unit is small and lightweight less than 190 grams that’s less than a bag of snakes !! When it was first released back in 2001 it changed the thinking on carrying a chain breaker when you ride.

 

WHY CARRY A CHAINBREAKER

Dirt bike chains are strong these days and well made so there shouldn’t be a problem with chains breaking,  but bikes are also extremely powerful and a lot of riders would be able to tell a story of chain troubles on theirs or someone else’s bike. (these guys probably all now carry chain breakers as they know the hassle to try and fix a chain without one ).

Let’s face it to fix a chain that has snapped we have to press out two link pins and then insert a spring link, this will need its outer plate pressed on before the clip can be installed. Or a solid link that will need its plate pressed on as well but also its pins riveted over in place of the spring clip.

Not much fun with a small file and a rock for a hammer.

The terra-x chain breaker will do all of the above easily over and over again. All you need is the replacement link and you’re on your way again.

The reason behind the terra-x chain breaker is simple, a friend of mine snapped a chain on a new bike in an isolated area and spent five hours getting the chain back together with the tools he had. (see file and rock)
